The Real Value of an Authentic Consecration Ceremony for Decorative Accessories for Fengshui

Authentic Consecration Ceremony or commonly known as Kaiguang (开光) is the Chinese term for consecration of a statue of a daoist deity. In Chinese, the literal meaning of Kaiguang is "opening of light" (开光点眼). While it is often performed in the Buddhist and Daoist faiths, it is also well known as the act of consecrating new lion costumes used for the traditional lion dance.

A kaiguang ritual varies amongst traditions, but it is essentially the act of formal consecration for proper usage by dotting the eyes of a statue or lion costume using a calligraphy brush coated with cinnabar. In Daoism and Buddhism, the ritual is performed by senior clerics and is done by inviting a specific deity, buddha or bodhisattva to empower an "empty" effigy of themselves and to fill it with a divine essence.

In Daoism, what matter most is Your Heart, Mind and Soul in Your trust and believe that the deities have the power to protect you and bring your prosperity and also understand the teachings of the individual deities.

Once the daoist deity has been properly consecrated with elaborate prayers and offerings, it is no longer a statue. It is the Deity in question. They are deemed to be the dwelling places or perhaps access portals of deities in the human world. These deities are believed to be sacred and cannot be moved without a solemn ceremony. Therefore, the benefits of prostrating, praying, and/or making offerings to it are of a whole other order than to an unconsecrated a statue of daoist deity.

1. Most important is the daoist deity statue or statues MUST BE CONSECRATED or at least there is a TALISMAN to EMPOWER the ALTAR and an Incense Urn to burn Incense.

2. It is believed that if a statue of daoist deity or decorative accessories for fengshui not gone through kaiguang or authentic consecration ceremony, it cannot be worshiped or used for performance, as the eyes are still "closed".

3. If a statue of daoist deity or decorative accessories for fengshui is not consecrated properly, it might invite other beings to reside in it. Hence it’s important to have a powerful daoist master perform the kaiguang ceremony for the statues or decorative accessories for fengshui.
